The absinthe La Valote Martin Belle Epoque is a La Bleue absinthe from Switzerland. The absinthe La Valote Martin Belle Epoque is produced by the distillery La Valote Martin, located in the town of Motiers in the Val de Travers. In 2014, Francis Martin handed over his distillery to his son Philippe Martin. Since then, he has managed the distillery, which is responsible for distilling absinthe according to the recipes of the fabled Val de Travers. In 1760, the green fairy was born here. But unfortunately, even in 1910, the ban on absinthe was implemented in Switzerland and that is why the bottle of Absinthe La Valote Martin Belle Epoque adorns this label. I openly admit that this label, which represents the poster of the absinthe ban, is my favorite label. In the foreground, you can see a man (law enforcement officer of Prohibition) standing over the dead green fairy, holding up a clock in his left hand announcing the end of absinthe. Behind it on the right you can see Helvetica, the female personification and symbol of Switzerland. There she weeps and mourns the green fairy, who was obviously killed in the foreground.

Now we come directly to the absinthe La Valote Martin Belle Epoque: the color is traditionally transparent as in a Swiss La Bleue absinthe. In my opinion, especially the absinthes of the brand of La Valote distillery stand out for their creaminess. So balanced, the individual components of anise, fennel, wormwood and other ingredients complement each other to form a complete, interesting flavor picture. The special feature of this absinthe La Valote Martin Belle Epoque is its slight bitterness in the finish. Therefore, this absinthe is best suited for preparation with a small sugar cube. This preparation ritual is very often used in the absinthe world. Also, this very slight bitterness does this absinthe very well in terms of its interesting overall flavor.

One reason why this Absinthe is so successful could be the following: After absinthe was banned in Switzerland in 1910, Francis Martin was one of the few underground distillers who continued to distill absinthe even while it was banned. So he, along with the other moonshiners, put up considerable resistance to the government's tactics.

Prepare La Valote Martin Belle Epoque absinthe along with a small sugar cube and ice cold water in a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio. You will see that very quickly a very intense cloudiness sets in. With this absinthe you have in front of you a traditional product of the highest quality, which lives up to its name La Bleue.
